Laura Langas might be familiar to some of you from “Playboy.” That’s because the “Wiesn Playmate” was also crowned German Playmate of the Year 2024. Now, the Munich native is showing herself naked again, but this time for a good cause – the animal rights organization Peta.
For three decades, Peta has been recognized for its radical actions in the name of animal protection and for featuring celebrities in the nude. The latest individual of some renown to bare all for the organization’s campaign is Laura Langas. She is the current Playmate of the Year. With the slogan “Hands off the bunnies!” the model advocates against the fur industry and the use of fur accessories.
“Fur doesn’t grow on trees!”
“I grew up with lots of animals myself, rabbits, cats, and dogs,” says the Playmate, explaining her motivation for this campaign. “I’m sure that every animal has a soul. And no animal deserves to end up as a fashion accessory,” she concludes.
“Fur doesn’t grow on trees! Behind every fur, whether coat or accessory, is an animal that has been tortured and killed for fashion. Please take a close look at what you buy and check the labels very carefully.” It is widely known that fur production has faced criticism for years. This is particularly so in an era where animal-free fur alternatives are readily producible.
“Frequently, the animals remain conscious while their skin is being removed”
But what exactly is the fur industry accused of? An information letter from Peta states: “In the fur industry, animals such as rabbits, chinchillas, foxes and minks suffer under unhygienic conditions in narrow mesh cages. The inhumane conditions on fur farms mean that many of the caged animals mutilate themselves and inflict bite wounds on their skin, tails and feet.”
The monotony of their lives literally drives the animals mad. “They are often gassed or anesthetized with anal electric shocks and cruelly killed. The animals are often still conscious while their skin is being peeled off. “1
“They hang rabbits upside down and slit their throats”
As Peta states, rabbits, in particular, generally endure a torturous existence in solitary confinement, from which the sociable animals suffer greatly. In addition, the animals are usually only six months old and then skinned. A rabbit can live up to 14 years in the wild, explains Peta. “In China, for example, people hit the animals on the head with the back of a knife, hang them upside down and cut their throats.”
According to these descriptions, this is a terrible situation. It is doubly welcome that attention is drawn to this issue. However, there are critical comments on Instagram about the shoot under Peta’s post. Some consider Playmate Laura Langas to be an unsuitable ambassador for animal welfare.

Animal rights activists criticize Peta for choosing Playmate
“The woman recently had roast pork in her story, wears leather, and last year, while activists from @animalrebellion.stg stormed the Oktoberfest parade, guess who was sitting in the horse-drawn carriage … sorry but, ABSOLUTE MISTAKE.”
A critique that Peta could not ignore prompted a compelled response: “Of course, we fully understand your thoughts. We still believe that a person can stand up for an issue that is important to them and still not be perfect in other areas. We think it’s great that Laura is using her reach for the animals. Isn’t that the most important thing?”
